This song and clip was inspired by a community meeting about domestic violence. After the meeting the fellas wrote this with Marc Peckham aka Monkey Marc. Sean Spencer produced the film. Its apart of their youth diversion activities, teaching multi media techniques to young people across the Barkly region of the Northern Territory in Australia.
lyrics
STOP THE VIOLENCE
“No More Trouble”
THINK ABOUT YOUR KIDS
“Little garu Little garu”
THINK ABOUT YOUR FUTURE
“Life is precious ”
AND THE WAY YOU GUNNA LIVE
“That’s right my brother”
DON’T DRINK TO MUCH
“hey put the can down”
YOU GOTTA BE STRONG
“Be Strong, Be strong”
LISTEN TO YOUR ELDERS
“with you Langa you mob”
KEEP YOUR CULTURE STRONG
“Keep your Culture Strong”
VERSE 1
Domestic violence causes trouble and fights
Grog and gambling playing cards at night
12 o’clock on the dot green can alarm clock
Elders heading up the street to the alcohol shop
Role models disappearing in front of our eyes
Some get drunk some get high
Life out here its hard to survive
We’re trying our best to keep our culture alive
KEEP YOUR CULTURE STRONG REPEAT!!
VERSE 2
Behind closed doors anything can happen
Jealousy, arguing, punching and slapping
Husband and wife screaming at each other
Starting fights with one another
Kids trying to sleep to go to school
But mother and father are acting like fools
They where so drunk and they wouldn’t listen
They didn’t even realise their baby was missing
Drunken people walking round prowling and yelling
Looking for trouble and backstabbing
When pay day comes they head to the scrub
They drink and drink the clock never stops
When the shop shuts they jump in the car
On a grog run to Dunmarra
Drinking and driving all the way back home
Putting lives at risk and leaving kids alone!
GROG RUNS, DRINK DRIVE, PRISON ON THE RISE
WE’RE MAKING THIS SONG TO KEEP OUR CULTURE ALIVE
